Explanation:
This pair of nutcrackers is made of steel, with finely chiselled decoration.
No comparable example appears to be recorded and consequently it is difficult to be sure of date and origin. However, it has been suggested that the workmanship is comparable to that of 17th century gunsmiths’ work emanating from Brescia, Italy.
